Is it ‘A Clear Road Ahead’ for the Railways ?

On Monday 26th September 2022 our guest speaker, Fraser Pithie, paid us another visit. Both members and visitors alike were kept entertained with his presentation, which was full and interesting facts and figures which are too numerous to mention here.
Fraser’s delivery was excellent and posed the question “Is it a Clear Road Ahead for the Railways”. There have been many players which brought us to our present “Great British Railway”.
He took us through the numerous government departments that have been created and disappeared showing few positive results.
So many have tried to put the railways ‘Right’; names including Beeching, Marples, Castle’ Bob Reid, Lord Adonis and more recently Shapps, etc. Many names indeed but few have succeeded to any great degree since the early 1980s.
It remains to be seen if the railways can improve from what has been created in times past? After answering many interesting questions Fraser was thanked for beginning our 2022/2023 season with such a brilliant presentation.
