Locomotives of the LNER relaunched

Vol-6

The picture above shows the frontispiece from Part 6A - a magnificent, evocative image of an LNER Class J38 hard at work in Scotland.  The picture now graces the cover of Volume 6 of the Society's new 8-volume re-issue of the Locomotives of the LNER series.

The Railway Observer (October 2022 edition) contains an article by our Digital Officer, Matthew Shaw: Locomotives of the LNER · A Society Classic Returns.  It tells the story of how the 19-book series came about in 1954 and how it developed over the following 40 years.  Happily, the Society has been able to re-issue the series in a way which takes full advantage of new printing technologies and digital forms of access.  Just in time for the centenary of the Grouping.

The contents are essentially unchanged.  19 volumes are now eight, with new covers, and the book of errata (Part 11) has been redistributed.  The printed edition is slightly larger at B5.  All volumes are softback, other than Volume 1 Introduction & Overview which is available in both hardback and softback varieties.  Before you ask, no, it isn't possible to offer the others in hardback at this time.
