Merseyside Electrics

Branch members were highly entertained on Wednesday 7 December by Charles Roberts on the subject of the Merseyside Electrics.

After giving us a brief introduction to the work of the Online Transport Archive, which Charles runs with others based in Shrewsbury, he went on to cover the Merseyside Electrics right from the opening of the Liverpool Overhead Railway in 1893 to the present day.  He covered the whole area from Southport in the north to the railways on the Wirral.

The majority of the pictures were from photographers who had donated their collections to the OTA and many of them were well known to the audience who enjoyed being taken back to their youth and early experiences as young railway enthusiasts.  We hope this will not be the last talk that Charles gives to the branch.
