Preserved British Steam – Allan Stewart

RCTS – West Midlands Branch Meeting Report

20th March 2023 – Coventry

Having made an excellent presentation of BR Steam images last year our guest speaker, Allan Stewart, returned to show us his post-1968 images. Beginning locally with a picture of Peckett 0-4-0ST ‘Rocket’ at work at the Courtaulds plant in Coventry he proceeded with more industrial steam in with 0-6-0PT No.1502 working at Keresley Colliery and other industrials at Longford Power Station.

After more industrial steam Allan turned his attentions abroad with pictures from Venice, Switzerland and France. A selection of BR mainline preserved steam was followed by an in depth look at UK narrow gauge operations from Mull in the north to the Bicton Woodland Railway in Devon and from the Bure Valley in East Anglia to the Vale of Rheidol in Wales. His attentions then turned to Gala Day operations on lines throughout the country culminating with some outstanding winter photography on the Great Central and Severn Valley Railways.

All in all, a stunning presentation of excellent images from 1968 to the present day. Thanks were given by all members present.
