Railways in the 1960s and 1970s
Thursday 13th March
The branch welcomed Hamish Stevenson from Bo’ness with his presentation featuring photographs from Arbroath to Alnwick taken by the late Douglas Hume and Ian Gordon, two erstwhile SRPS members. Arbroath provided 60816 on the 11.00 Buchanan Street-Aberdeen, followed by A. H. Peppercorn on the 09.18 Aberdeen-Kings Cross in 1959, then at Elliott Junction with 67486 on the 17.10 Dundee East-Arbroath in 1958.

BR Standard Class 7 4-6-0 70003 John Bunyan
Notable traction included 60043 Brown Jack arriving at Dysart on the 12.47 Leven-Edinburgh Waverley in 1960 and 70003 John Bunyan on the 18.05 Waverley-Carstairs during 1964. At Murrayfield, 73075 and 73076 were seen departing on a return 17.02 rugby special to Glasgow Central in 1963, while 78054 on the “Scottish Rambler Railtour No.4” was at St. Leonards during 1965. The 10.15 “Waverley” Edinburgh-London St. Pancras failed north of Newcastleton when hauled by D27 in June 1964, being rescued by 60077 The White Knight. Gilnockie featured 43055 with the 15.30 Langholm-Carlisle in June 1962, and Alnwick station provided 62030 running round after working 07.53 ex-Alnmouth during May 1964. An excellent and comprehensive survey of many now forgotten railway routes, much appreciated by our attendees.
