Ramblings with a new Camera – 1962

We joined forces with Cheltenham Rail Action Photographers for our November meeting (they arranged the speaker – we hosted the meeting!) to welcome Brian Holland and Michael Chapman from Leicester to present Ramblings with a new Camera -1962. Brian had been using a Kodak 127 instamatic which took just 10 pictures per film but armed with a shiny new 35mm SLR which took films with 36 picture capability the world suddenly opened up. Michael, being the technical mind, has converted the resulting pictures into digital format. With images from around the UK – centring on Leicester but reaching Skegness, Exeter, Swindon, Derby, Grantham, Nottingham, Bristol, and Gloucester amongst other locations we visited a number of sheds and works as well as lineside and stations. Locomotives observed represented all of the ‘big four’ from Kitson 0-4-0ST, Collett 0-4-2T and 0-6-0PT, the mixed traffic Thompson B1, Stanier Cl.5, Collett Hall, Maunsell N, through the more powerful Stanier Jubilee, Collett Star and Castle, Peppercorn A2, Riddles Standard 4 and 5 classes right up to the mighty Stanier Princess Coronation and cl.8F, Gresley A4, Collett King, Bulleid West Country and Merchant Navy, Riddles Cl.7 and Cl.9 classes and many more in in between. In this transition year the odd diesel or two appeared – Hymek, Warship, Western, Deltic and a Sulzer cl.45. An evening with something for everyone.
