Round Britain preserved lines
Due to the late cancellation of our booked speaker for this event our Committee Member, Will Gibson, stood in having put together a set of videos illustrating a number of preserved railways in Great Britain.
Starting with a short video taken at the Watercress Line in Hampshire which featured mainly Southern Region locomotives, notably a well-turned out Schools Class, we moved to the Bluebell Railway with location videos at East Grinstead and Sheffield Park amongst others. Will then took us to Wales to visit the Bala Lake Railway and then on to the Llangollen Railway before completing the first half of the evening at the Embsay Railway.
After the break the programme featured the Severn Valley Railway, with some impressive movements of 6024, King Edward IV in striking blue livery. Keighley and Worth Valley was next on the agenda followed by a trip across the Pennines to the East Lancashire Railway to show videos of a Blue Diesel Gala. Will completed the show with a short piece on the short stretch of the Stainmore Line at Kirkby Stephen.
The videos were shot in high quality colour and on days blessed with sunshine which made the locomotives, rolling stock, stations and associated railwayana look splendid. The gardens at the featured stations were a notable and colourful feature exhibiting the dedication and hard work of the many volunteers who make visiting our preserved lines such a pleasurable experience.
