Swanning Around London in the 1980’s

Presented by Jeremy Harrison

For our first WGC meeting of the year, we welcomed Jeremy Harrison of Croydon Branch with his presentation “Swanning Around-London in the 1980’s”.
We started the afternoon with views of units 2-VEP’s & class 313’s in pre- Network Southeast liveries, before moving on. Pictures of the many various classes of units in the famous red, white & blue NSE livery proved quite abundant in many of Jeremy’s other slides from the termini and views from around the capital. There were also scenes from various Open Days that occurred in those days, particularly interesting were Old Oak Common & Stratford. Other regular places visited during the afternoon were Clapham Junction, Willesden, Stewarts Lane and of course his beloved Croydon area. Many other photographic diversions took place, to show scenes of several of the underground lines and the, then relatively new, Docklands Light Railway. During the presentation there were many slides showing most classes of locomotives that were around in the 80’s, both diesel and electric. A very nostalgic afternoon particularly for the stock and liveries specialists amongst us.
