The Midland Railway’s Sheet Stores – Ian Mitchell

On 12th November Ian Mitchell presented a short but very interesting talk about the site which became know as Sheet Stores. It started off life as a coke interchange from canal to railway at the site where the newly built railways crossed the Erewash Canal near Trent Junction. The site gradually developed into a manufacturing facility for wagon sheets otherwise known as tarpaulins and Ian showed some interesting photos of the various processes.

British Railways dispensed with the site in 1963 but the building remain to this day and it is designated as an industrial Heritage area

Another excellent talk and well attended by 34 members and guests - a post Covid record
