The Rhymney Railway

The Rhymney Railway by Peter Fortune Secretary of the South Wales RCTS Branch

The route was from Rhymney to Cardiff via the valleys originally using running rights to the Taff Vale at Walnut Tree Junction, and then the Rhymney built their own line through a tunnel under Caerphilly Mountain into Cardiff.

After a break the talk covered the Aber Branch to Senghenydd; (where over 500 miners lost their lives through two pit disasters) and Caerphilly works.   The line ran through Cefn Onn, now replaced by a new station ,  Llanishen, and Heath Halt High Level.

The members thanked Peter for an interesting and informative talk.
