The Waverley Route – Dennis Lovett

On 14th November at our first afternoon meeting of the session, Dennis Lovett described in detail the route from Edinburgh to Carlisle known universally as ‘The Waverley Route’ which was closed in January 1969

After a general review of the line Dennis showed numerous photographs of the stations on the line both large and small and related their history and final demise. There were exceptions and Melrose for example is a now fully restored listed building

Dennis also showed the construction of the Borders Railway from Edinburgh to Tweedbank and discussed the future which may well see the complete line reconstructed throughout

A fascinating and thoroughly well researched talk which fittingly was our best attended talk since the dark days of Covid with 30 members present
