Two new books
This is a comprehensively illustrated history of the first generation DMUs explaining the background behind their introduction, their workings and later modifications. Coverage is by class and the pictures show the many and varied liveries carried by the units and are accompanied by very detailed captions. The images chosen follow the development of each class from the initial standard green livery through to the many multiĀcolour ones chosen later in the lives of the units. The book contains 155 pictures in full colour and is a must for every DMU aficionado.
This is the first of what will be an annual publication using photographs taken by RCTS members to produce a photographic record of the railway for each year. The pictures are presented in full page, landscape format and have been chosen to provide a balance of geographical area and subject, whilst keeping to the need to select images which are both relevant and interesting and form an appropriate record of the year. The coverage with a mix of locomotives and multiple units, passenger and freight, extends from north to south and east to west on the national network of mainland UK, but excludes heritage or preserved lines.
The pictures are accompanied by informative captions describing the locomotives or units depicted, the service they were working and also highlights events during the year, such as the introduction of new trains and liveries. Arranged in date order to form a record of events over the twelve months.
