Visit to Bradford Model Engineers – Shipley

Activities for the summer months focussed on an August visit to Bradford Model Engineers at their woodland premises in Shipley, where a pleasant evening of summer weather contributed to an excellent evening of ‘playing with trains’.  The five-inch oval circuit was the main focus of attention which was well patronised as three beautiful locomotives were in action.  Those being pioneer Thompson B1 4-6-0 “Springbok” and a superb 4-2-0 Crampton “Lady Myra” which provided the action for steam enthusiasts whilst a battery powered model of a London Underground electric Bo-Bo locomotive 8 “Sherlock Holmes” took its share of the workload.

Operations around the lengthy woodland circuit were in the hands of petrol hydraulic 0-6-0 shunter which, with its shining headlights, proved to be a popular attraction thereby further extending the evening’s interest.  The enthusiasm of the Engineers in providing the interesting array of locomotives, together with their hospitality, made for another excellent evening of summer entertainment.
