Visit to Central Scotland

Seven members headed north of the border with the specific intention of riding on the reopened branch to Leven.

We departed Warrington Bank Quay aboard 390118 [1S37 05.31 Euston – Glasgow Central]. An uneventful journey resulted in an on-time arrival at our destination and a quick walk to Queen St enabled us to travel on 385122 + 385114 [1R39 11.15 to Edinburgh Waverley] which actually terminated in the bay platform at Haymarket. We connected into 2K63 [12.06 Edinburgh – Leven] with 170432.

As we approached Leven we passed the Fife Heritage Railway. Visible were three industrials in addition to ex Network Rail unit 313121 which arrived on site on 17 August 2023. One member chose to await the arrival of the following service with 158722 in order to photograph its arrival whilst the other six members returned on the Class 170 to Haymarket.

Three members travelled to Queen St aboard 385115 + 385118 [1R75 14.45 ex Edinburgh] as they had all booked to return South on 1M17 [390134]; the other four travelled later.

The total cost of rail travel on the day was £39.80 which represented excellent value.
