Visit to Doncaster
The song, “Where have all the flowers gone” replaced by “Where have all the freight trains gone” could easily have applied to the MC&NW branch visit to Doncaster on the 10th October. 4 members of the branch were joined by 2 members from Edinburgh. During the four hours of observation only 2 freight trains came through the station. Three light engines passed by including 69006 and a rail cleaning train.
There were obviously the normal routine trains, LNER Azumas, TPE185s and the other trains that Doncaster is famous for, but very little freight.
As with any MC&NW branch outing the banter did not stop coming, including the story of our Scottish member's trip to England last month, when his journey home finished at 3:00 am and cost over £600 in taxi fares.
We look forward to our next outdoor fixture when we hope to see a few more freight trains.
