With Lance King in Ireland 1958-1965

On Tuesday 20th May we welcomed Leslie McAlister for the first of his series of presentations using scanned slides taken by the late Lance King.  Although Lance worked most of his life in central London, Lance made numerous visits to the Republic of Ireland over several decades taking many colour slides to record the by then reducing railway network of Irish railways at a time of great change.

Lance’s colour photos provided us with a great record of steam in the Dublin area and on the fondly remembered branches such as Kenmare, Loughrea, Ballaghadereen, Edenderry, Tullow, Clara and Youghal.  Steam and diesel traction were shown on the Cork Bandon and South Coast Railway.  Railtours were also shown which included the last “Bandon tank”.

A highly recommended presentation.  We look forward to seeing Leslie return to give us the next instalment of this presentation on 19th May 2026.
