13th September 2021 On-Line Meeting: Travels with the late Ray Miller – Transport Delights of the U.K. and Europe in the 1960s and 1970s.

Presenter: Simon Colbeck

For our Zoom meeting on Monday 13th September Simon Colbeck gave a presentation to 62 participants on “Travels with the late Ray Miller: Transport Delights of the U.K. and Europe in the 1960s and 1970s.”  After Ray’s death in 2016 Simon inherited the whole of his massive collection of scanned Kodachrome and Agfa images showing a wide variety of subjects.   As Simon’s lifelong hobby has been the conservation and restoration of aging photographic images he was able to make the most of Ray’s earlier shots.  Ray’s travels reflected his wider interests other than just railways.  Steam traction engines, paddle steamers and vintage road vehicles all featured in the collection as well as less familiar shots on the Isle of Man and London Transport surface lines.  LCGB charter trains were a popular subject for Ray’s camera at this time.  He was also an active member of the Ffestiniog Railway. Simon was able to use his expertise to pass on much advice on how to make the best of aging images and how to restore those that were already showing signs of deterioration.
