All Change, Britain’s Railways 1967 to 1979

Following Mike’s personal farewell tour of steam around the UK in 1966, railways took a back seat in his life. University, jobs, marriage, and children took over and railway photographs generally resulted from being at a location for other reasons, rather than special trips to photograph trains. However, the photos he did take chart an era of significant change on the Britain’s railways; the end of steam on BR and the early diesels, diminishing industrial steam, and the emerging railway heritage scene. Locations covered in this presentation includes photos taken in the Birmingham area, the British Leyland Longbridge railway facility, Kent, Somerset, Berkshire, and the London Area.

Mike is a 4th generation railwayman, born in Bath, moving to Bristol at the age of 10 and now living in Chippenham.
