Sheffield Branch : Observation at Chesterfield

The 14th August saw a number of branch members on observation at Chesterfield station for a busy high-summer session from around 11.30, with a number of interesting freight workings and passenger trains on what turned out to be a fine and warm but cloudy afternoon. Passenger services ran fairly much to plan with no cancellations noted. Last year during a similar observation period there were 13 locomotive movements noted – this year there were 11 in a slightly shorter period. 66s again dominated all services, although a GBRf 69 was seen and a pair of Class 70s had passed through earlier in the day. The observation session was much enjoyed by those who participated and incidentally gave ample opportunity for much informal conversation: we expect to return in 2025!   A list of movements and motive power is given below:
