Anthony Hicks – “Something for everyone” 1964 to 2024
MEETING REPORT 10th DECEMBER 2024
A small but very appreciative audience gathered at Farm Road on a windy but very mild evening a couple of weeks before Christmas to welcome back Anthony Hicks to present to Sheffield branch for the first time in more than two years. Anthony presented a fascinating selection of both his and his father’s photos. The evening started with a review of the past year and a great selection of Anthony’s great photos were presented, both around his native West Yorkshire and from much further afield in the UK. Many photos were taken with the help of a tall camera pole to obtain some interesting angles. We were also treated to some scanned photos taken by his Dad in the 1960s, with steam and diesel traction seen. Considering the age of the photos the quality was excellent. Highlights included steam in Corby steelworks and shots taken on the Bournemouth-Weymouth line. The audience was then invited to choose a subject from a number presented on the screen and we were treated to more great photos from Anthony’s collection, including from the West Coast Main Line, Devon and the Scarborough-Hull Wolds Coast line. We look forward to welcoming Anthony back to Sheffield branch again at a future date.
