Visit to Stafford
This fixture represented our annual pre-Christmas get-together. The numbers of attendees were sadly depleted due to a series of health and family issues, but the famous five duly met up on platform 3/4 at Stafford station under cover of the little glass shelter as it chucked it down most of the day. So not a good day for photography but at least it was mild. Moreover, this time there were no major disruptions to our journeys; there were a couple of relevant train cancellations, but they did not seriously impinge upon anyone’s itinerary.
To the accompaniment of liberal helpings of pork pie, stollen and chocolates, not to mention warming liquids from hip flasks, a certain degree of Christmas jollity was achieved.
We were treated to a very creditable succession of freight workings, as always at Stafford, with a peak period between 12 and 1pm. We also took note of the usual fare of Pendolinos, Voyagers, class 350s, and the newer class 805s and 807s, and several examples of the class 730/2, now fully in service.
Due to the inclement weather, we left Stafford before the evening freight rush hour, but no matter; an excellent day’s spotting had been enjoyed by all.
