Andy Barclay – More slides from the Peter Fox collection

MEETING REPORT 14TH OCTOBER 2025

The guest presenter for our October meeting was branch member Andy Barclay and covered slides (digitally converted) from the collection of the late Peter Fox.  The extensive collection produced many local shots and from further afield.  The session opened with a 1954 slide of LNWR G2a 0-8-0 49314 at the Princess Dock at Liverpool.  Most of the images seen were of steam days, right up to their demise in the late sixties.  In a very wide ranging part one, we saw many pictures of LMS Jubilee 4-6-0’s at Sheffield Midland station and its environs.  Geographically, we also visited Shropshire, Westmoreland, Perthshire, Devon (in particular seascapes at Dawlish & Teignmouth), Scotland (Edinburgh Waverley), and Wales.  Many ‘specials’ were captured, including some organised by RCTS branches.  A particularly attractive photo was of the preserved Caledonian 4-2-2 no. 123 & LSWR T9 ‘Greyhound’ no. 120 on a ‘Bluebelle’ special.  One of the writer’s favourites was of Midland/LMS 0-6-0T ‘Jinties’ 47629 & 47383 being hired to Williamthorpe Colliery near Holmewood, Derbyshire.  For the second part of the presentation Andy confirmed his passion for the HST sets.  They were noted at such diverse locations as Swanage, Inverness, Ruddington (prototype 41001), the Royal Border Bridge at Berwick, York etc.  As a contrast we saw the ‘Parry People Mover’ 139001 at Stourbridge Junction, and stormy scenes taken at the sea wall at Dawlish.  These presentations evoked many happy memories for the small but appreciative audience.
