Gosling’s Gallivants

Paul Gosling’s presentation to our meeting on 19 January was Gosling’s Gallivants in which he gave an account of his transport related activities in the last full year before life changed due to Covid 19. Trips to preserved railways included the local Mid-Hants Railway and the South Devon Railway to mark its 50th anniversary of re-opening. Time was spent at Paul’s local station at Millbrook with photographs of trains from the now closed footbridge that extended across the down slow and fast and lines to the docks. Visits were made to the miniature Eastleigh Lakeside Railway which had Great Central and Modern Traction days, the latter including passable scaled down versions of Swindon built Warship D801 and a Eurostar Class 373.

Paul has an interest in shipping and we witnessed the arrival of new cruise liner “MSC Bellissima” and the final arrival of “Oriana” before its departure as “Piano Land”. Finally, a visit was made to Bursledon Brickworks for a display of Austin 7s and buses.

Paul was thanked for his enjoyable slide show and we look forward to him making a return visit.
