Let’s go round again! – Anthony Hicks

MEETING REPORT 9th NOVEMBER 2022

Sheffield branch offered a warm welcome back to Anthony Hicks for our November meeting. Anthony made the journey down from West Yorkshire and gave us one of his “pick & mix” shows where the audience could choose what they wanted to see – a great idea. As the meeting was called “Lets Go Round Again” Anthony started with a few photos of the LNER HST farewell tour in 2019, including some of the blue & yellow-liveried HST from inside the depot at Neville Hill. He then kicked off the selections with a superb collection of photos from a seldom-illustrated line – that from York to Scarborough, where Anthony has been quite active capturing the TransPennine Class 68s hard at work in recent years. Members of the audience then chose their own selections from a list presented on the screen – we enjoyed a tour of the country with subject matter including the Isle of Wight (including some of Anthony’s dad’s archive photos), South Wales, the Highland Main Line, Swanage Railway, Boston steel on the Skegness line including a cab ride within Boston docks, Peak Forest area freight, Cornwall and the superbly restored old station at Richmond. The fantastic selection of photographs were often sprinkled with Antony’s anecdotes of how he got to some out of the way places to get that “master shot”, even including in people gardens and even houses! A brilliant and highly entertaining show and we look forward to welcoming Antony back to Sheffield in the near future.
