Members’ Evening

Our December meeting consisted on members’ slides and digital images with contributions from 8 members. Eric Nicholass commenced the evening’s proceedings with photos taken on overseas trips to Canada and China before returning to the UK with scanned slides of London Underground stock. John Goodrich’s contribution to the evening had a Scottish theme, mostly using scanned slides from the 1970s and 1980s when classes 24 and 26 could be found on the far north lines, local goods yards were open, and the “Mexican bean” liveried Class 104 unit could be found on Oban services. He was followed by Martin Hubbard who showed photos of Southern steam dating from the 1960s and more recent photos showing the arrival of Class 59 locomotives at Southampton Docks. Stephen Bigley’s presentation was based on drone shots of freight trains in Hampshire and Wiltshire

Philp Haines entertained us with video footage taken at the branch observation evening at Eastleigh on 15 June 2022 with several members recognising themselves. All the main passenger and freight traffic seen was illustrated. Dave Doulton took us on a tour of Europe with visits to France and Switzerland. Maintaining the continental theme, David Mead showed a selection of slides taken on a visit to Portugal in 1976. The evening was brought to a close with John Godfrey showing slides taken in Belgium, Belarus, and Russia.

We thank all those who contributed photos to an interesting and varied evening, and Irina for providing the seasonal fare.
