Observation at Chesterfield

On Wednesday 16 August a number of RCTS Sheffield branch members gathered on Chesterfield station for a busy high-summer observation session from around 11.30, with a number of interesting freight and passenger trains seen on what turned out to be a largely fine and sometimes sunny afternoon. Some members noted that Chesterfield can sometimes boast more freight movements than Doncaster on a busy afternoon, albeit all freights seen were in the hands of the ubiquitous Class 66. Most passenger services ran to plan with no cancellations noted but the 13.22 EMR service to Liverpool was held in the station for 40 minutes after a person on the train was taken ill on the train and required the attendance of paramedics. This meant a few services used the bi-directional Platform 3 and once able to move the EMR service ran forward via Dore South Curve (avoiding Sheffield) to make up lost time.
