On 22nd September we welcomed Brian Sharpe (who was a previous deputy editor of Heritage Railway magazine), who gave us a traditional slide show using a projector – remember those?

The presentation covered the years that Brian was taking slides. He switched to digital in the early naughties and has continued to be an active photographer, and was able to comment on what the various locations are like now. He has some very good and interesting images, although it was helpful to have a certain level of knowledge of railway geography in the area. The slides showed just how much industry and related traffic has been lost from the railway scene since 1970.

The scope was largely the East Midlands down as far as Peterborough and Wellingborough including Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire and around Chesterfield and Sheffield. There were a few shots of the Woodhead line and as far north and west as Chinley and the Buxton area.

We had an attendance of 25 of whom seven were non-members.
