The development of a high speed pantograph

On October 13th Dave Coxon gave an interesting talk about the development of a high speed pantograph.

Dave related how he worked on the High Speed Current Collection project within the R&DD and explained how the dynamic study of modelling the OHLE and pantograph resulted in a completely new pantograph which eventually was trialled in anger on the mainline. It became the BR high speed pantograph which is used by nearly all the high speed locomotives and EMUs in the UK.

The talk was completed rather early so Dave gave another talk about his experiences in South Africa with the pantograph and his fortunate opportunities to see a lot of steam engines 12 years after steam finished in UK.

The talk was attended by 26 members and guests
