The rolling stock marshalling of the Down and Up Special TPO workings is show below.
Down Special TPO
On leaving Euston, the formation of the Down special, from the front, was BG-BG-POT-POS-POS-POT-POS-POS-POS-POT-POT-BG. Although not shown in the Marshalling Circular, one of the rear two POTs was a braked vehicle for use on the Aberdeen portion.
At Birmingham New Street, a BG was added to the rear of the formation, destined for Manchester Piccadilly. This was one of two BGs that worked back and forth between Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly once per day, using the Up and Down Specials:
- 1S09 22.34 Birmingham to Crewe, arrive 23.42
- 1H11 00.42 Crewe to Manchester, arrive 01.31
- 1K87 22.25 Manchester to Crewe, arrive 23.11
- 1M44 00.29 Crewe to Birmingham, arrive 01.34
The leading BG was also detached at Crewe and went forward on 4F01, 00.17 Parcels and Mail to Lime Street (not at 00.08 as shown), arriving into Lime street at XX.XX.
On departure from Crewe, the leading BG-POT-POS-POS-POT-POS formation became the Crewe-Glasgow Sorting Carriage.
