An Evening With Father’s Slides
On 22nd January the branch enjoyed an evening of nostalgia when David Cross, the son of Derek Cross, gave us “An Evening With Father’s Slides”.
Derek Cross was one of the most well-known railway photographers during the latter years of steam and early modern traction including both electric and diesel. David had carefully scanned the slides to produce a digital presentation which was enjoyed in our Maidenhead meeting room and remotely on Zoom.
The slides gave a “virtual M25” show of images starting in Paddington and finishing at Euston covering the period from the late 1950s through to the 1970s. Locomotives and trains were photographed at locations including Iver, Sonning Cutting, Reading, Basingstoke, Bearsted, Oxted, Swanley, St.Mary Cray, Hadley Wood and Kenton along with many others.
Many famous engines were shown at these locations and the show refreshingly included diesel and electric locomotives as well as steam.
The presentation by David Cross was very interesting with loads of background information provided along with a number of amusing anecdotes concerning his father and was enjoyed by us all. Thank you David for very enjoyable evening.
