Railway Around World War II

RCTS – West Midlands Branch Meeting Reports February 17th & March 17th 2025

On Monday 17th February we held the West Midlands Branch AGM where the existing committee were re-elected en-bloc. Three members made presentations the first being Ian Reid who projected slides showing ‘The Railway Scene in the 1980s and 1990s’. Following Ian Derrick Codling showed images from his extended trip to Japan. The meeting concluded with Chris Youett showing three junctions in mid-Wales namely Moat Lane Junction, Talyllyn Junction and Three Cocks Junction.

At our March 17th meeting we welcomed Robin Mathams who gave an illustrated talk showing ‘Images Around World War II’. These monochrome pictures were from The Percy Moseley Collection which had been superbly restored from contact prints by members of the Sutton Coldfield Railway Society. All images were appended with details and captions of the highest order. They were taken between 1935 and 1948 and covered most regions in particular the Midland Main Line when Percy was employed at Vauxhall Motors in Luton.

The East Coast Main line also featured with many Class A3s hauling expresses. Of particular interest to branch members were local scenes around Warwickshire including Coventry and Berkswell & Balsall Common. We thanked Robin for this superb presentation and look forward to seeing more of the Moseley Collection.
