‘Railways in and Around World War Two’, by Robin Mathams, 6th February 2024

6th February 2024 Meeting

On 6th February we sat down for our second Zoom presentation of the year reaching a peak viewing figure of 62 to enjoy Robin Mathams with his talk about 'Railways in and around World War Two’.

The photos were all taken by Percy Moseley from his collection and upon his death his family presented them to the Sutton Coldfield Railway Society.

Percy was an engineering manager with Humber Cars, he processed all his own photographs, and there were many.

The society scanned, catalogued, restored and converted them to JPEGs and research was undertaken, a script written, software prepared and projected in Full HD.

The show covered 1937-1945 and we started with a Duchess 6233 on a Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury and a Black 5 at Bilbrook. We then saw many locations and locomotives during the show  which included some from a Camden Shed Open Day in 1937 and finishing with a pristine 'City of Coventry’.

An excellent evening and Robin will be back next year for more.
