‘Those Were the Years Those Were, Part 2’, by Michael Reade, 3rd September 2024
3rd September 2024 Meeting.
We welcomed back branch member Michael Reade for Part 2 of ‘Those were the years those were [with apologies to Geoff Plumb]’.
The majority of the slides were from the 1960s with a handful from the 70s. Michael was chasing as much of the remaining steam locomotives as he could and there were a wide variety shown with many different locations including High Wycombe, Headstone Lane, Pinner, a Dukedog at Chessington Zoo Miniature Railway, Bushey, Fleet, Snow Hill, Wellington [Salop], Oswestry Shed, the depots at Feltham, Southall, Nine Elms, Rose Grove, Copy Pit, Normanton, Stockport [Edgeley], Carnforth, Lostock Hall, Dinting, and Neasden.
We visited preserved railways at K&WVR, K&ESR, Bluebell, Bressingham, Chappell & Wakes Colne as well as the narrow gauge railways at RH&DR, Whipsnade Zoo and Leighton Buzzard, a quick glimpse of Utrecht Museum and finishing with many slides of the Watford crash of 1975.
25 was the attendance for a nostalgic evening on our first meeting o9f the new season
