Visit to South Wales
Following the debacle of the May visit to South Wales, when 67020 & 82229 failed at Church Stretton, the fixture was repeated successfully. Six Members attended, meeting at Cardiff Central at 10.00.
Freight traffic was disappointing but we took the opportunity to study the unit diagrams. The Class 231s were confined to the Rhymney/Bargoed to Barry Island axis with Class 150 & 153 units on services on the remainder of the Valley lines. The exception was Cardiff to Ebbw Vale Town worked by a mixture of Class 158 & 197 units. Newport – Ebbw Vale services were in the hands of Class 150s.
The highlight of the day was 37884 & 37608 top & tail with 175114 working the 5W97 08.16 service Holyhead – Landore.
