The majority of appearances during this era were on relief trains resourced by the Southern Region, often returning their ecs. Of particular note was the substitution of 33111+ 4 TC’s 420+425 for a hauled set on the 7th July 1979, the TC’s leading on the outward journey through the Cherwell Valley.
