- After a break of 56 years, Soham made a welcome return to the UK rail network on Monday 13th December 2021. The first train to call at the newly re-opened station was 755418 which arrived two minutes early with 2E70, the 05.40 Colchester to Peterborough. - On the night of 2nd June 1944, the leading wagon of a train of high explosives from Whitemoor to Ipswich, hauled by WD 2-8-0 7337, caught fire at Soham. The train crew detached the wagon from the train and were drawing it forward when it exploded, killing the fireman and the signal man and injuring several others, but saving many more lives had the whole train exploded.
