Branch CBR Cambridge

Welcome to the Cambridge Branch of the RCTS. We meet once a month from September to May (inclusive), usually on the second Tuesday, at The Swifts in Fulbourn.

Our meetings generally take the form of slide shows, movies or talks with lively discussions on all aspects of railway history and operational practice.

We also have a wonderful selection of hundreds of railway books available at each meeting at bargain prices.

All are welcome to join us and to share their interest!

Cambridge Branch Travels

Cambridge South station opened for traffic on Sunday 28th June 2026. On that day, Thameslink Class 700 No. 700131 is seen arriving with 9S24, 11.22 Brighton to Cambridge. The station is the first to display ‘Great British Railways’ branding in a welcome move, displays printed timetables to various destinations, a feature currently missing from many stations. However, no car parking is provided. On the West (left) side, towards Cambridge, access is only by foot or bicycle and footpaths/cycle paths lead to extensive recent housing developments around Trumpington. On the East side access is possible by car drop off, taxi, bicycle, or on foot, with a limited number of disabled parking places. The guided busway from Cambridge station to Addenbrookes hospital crosses above the station and is a short distance from bus stops on the East side. There is no ticket office; only ticket machines. As can be seen, the station roof is 'eco-friendly', being covered in grass, whilst elsewhere solar panels provide electricity. Predictably, video surveillance is comprehensive with cameras on every lamppost, and elsewhere. Extensive bicycle racks are provided, parts of which are only accessible by a code lock (for a fee). RCTS Cambridge Branch Gallery

The RCTS Cambridge Branch Gallery aims to capture the diversity of railway operation over an area roughly corresponding to the coverage of the former 31A Cambridge Shed, which includes Cambridge,  St Ives, Huntingdon, Ely, March, Wisbech, Kings Lynn, South Lynn, Hunstanton, Bury St Edmunds and Saffron Walden

To reflect the interests and travels of our members, we also show images from further afield.

Our aim is to share the fascination of railway operation with as many people as possible. Images are drawn from a wide range of sources and where known each is acknowledged.
