This title is the fourth in the RCTS series of books which present images taken by RCTS members during a calendar year, in this case the year is 2025. The theme of the title depicts developments and events on Britain’s network. Presented as one image per page in landscape format. Extended captions accompany each full-page colour photograph. The coverage extends the length and breadth of the country, showing the work of passenger and freights services in many liveries, covers old, the new and even some rail tours featuring steam locomotives. The quality of the images is impressive and benefits from the full width presentation. A joy to view.

This is the fourth year that RCTS have published a lavish landscape style book of some 150 colour images taken by its members dur- ing the past year. Covering the whole of Great Britain in chrono- logical order through 2025, the superb images cover, unsurprisingly, plenty of dmu/emu sets on passenger services, plus Azumas, and plenty of class 56/60/66/68 on freight with a new class 99 on the front cover. Captions are fully detailled, with date, location, service and much historical information accurately given.
Taken in rural and urban locations, sometimes in stations or in works, most are three-quarter front views, but some long-distance shots and a few night-time photos are included, with Locomotion No | (replica) on Skerne Bridge in the early hours of 28 September particularly striking, with crew in hi-vis in coach Experiment showing up particularly well! Also, a long-distance shot of an LNER nine-coach Azuma crossing the Border Bridge is beautifully composed.As well as recording motive power, the photos also show architecture, some from the |9th century still in use (eg. Wymondham signal box of 1877).
A couple of steam specials are included, featuring 70000 and 71000, and a few of the soon to be ‘herit- age’ HSTs. Although the acknowledgments state that RCTS members were out in ‘all types of weather’, only one image features snow. Apart from an occasional damp platform, falling snow, fog, mist, rain and strong winds are not captured on any images! | commented on this in a previous review of these books; in future years will we look back and think the sun always shone in days gone by? Don’t they say that about childhood memories?
A very interesting and comprehensive review of the past year and to be recommended.
